Giet de groenten af en koel het af onder koud stromend water. Pel en snij de knoflook fijn, snipper het sjalotje fijn. Doe de olie in de wok en voeg de fijngesnipperde sjalot toe. Voeg daarna de knoflook toe, maar blijf goed en snel roeren, zodat de knoflook niet aanbrandt. De Shanghai paksoi kan er meteen daarna in de wok bij de knoflook en sjalot.
